The alleged victim was treated by paramedics and taken to the Royal Childrenâs Hospital in a stable condition with upper-body injuries, which police said were minor.
Another teenage boy was interviewed by police and later released.
Victoria Police said he was expected to be charged with assault-related offences.
A Department of Education spokeswoman said the principal of the school had contacted studentsâ parents and carers.
âWe acknowledge and thank the student community for the mature way they handled this incident, and the staff who handled a challenging situation exceptionally well and put the safety of all students as their first priority,â the spokeswoman said.
Staff initially gave the teenage boy who was allegedly stabbed first aid, and the secondary college was locked down for a short time while police investigated the incident.
Students would be offered counselling on Thursday.
A caller to Melbourne radio station 3AW, Dianne â" who did not give her surname â" said her grandson attended the school.
âMy grandson, who is 15 ... said, âThereâs been a stabbing at school, Nanâ,â she said.
âApparently the little boy is alright.
âItâs my grandsonâs friend, so itâs sad, but heâs going to be all right.â
