The Cube Bolton student block destroyed in fire open again

A STUDENT accommodation block that was wrecked in a massive fire in 2019 has completed its refurbishment and is welcoming students back.

The Cube, in Bradshawgate in Bolton town centre, was engulfed in flames within minutes of the blaze starting on November 15, 2019 and hundreds of students were forced to flee the fire.

Miraculously no lives were lost in the blaze.

The accommodation and the businesses below it have been largely vacant since due to the damage caused by the fire.

The building was covered in scaffolding earlier this year as refurbishment work on the building was commenced.

This has been taken down, with the building completely repaired and available for students to move in to for the start of the university term in September.

The accommodation is now run by Urban Student Life, who took over the site in July, 2020 from the Valeo Groupe after the blaze.

They describe the accommodation on their website as “brand new” after the refurbishment, saying: “Brand new and opening in September is The Cube, our fresh, totally revamped student accommodation in central Bolton offering students the perfect home away from home! It’s without a doubt the best student digs in the town, with en suites in every room, a gym, and plenty of space for all your bits and bobs.”

A spokesman for USL told The Bolton News: “We are very excited for The Cube to be reopening this September. Everyone in the team is looking forward to welcoming students back. We have been delighted to see a strong demand for space at the property with students eager to stay in the heart of Bolton.”

Deputy leader of Bolton Council, Martyn Cox, said: “It was such a traumatic event for everyone involved at the time.

“Symbolically it’s fantastic that the building will be coming back into use and be able to move forward after what happened.

“The company and everyone else behind getting it back into use for students deserve all the praise for getting it back so quickly as it so easily could have been left and everyone at the council appreciates the work that has been done. There will be a number of people who would have worked very hard on bringing it back and I’m sure the students will very much appreciate it too.”
